Wollongong uni has confirmed an “increase” of residents in isolation on it’s accomodation sites in the lead up to the start of session.
Last Friday at 1pm, 4.5 per cent of residents were in isolation after returning a positive COVID test.
“With the commencement of the 2022 academic year and the return of students to UOW Accommodation, we are experiencing an unfortunate but anticipated increase in the number of positive cases of COVID-19 within residences,” a UOW spokesperson said.
“We are continually monitoring the situation in our residences and beyond and continue to collaborate with local health authorities to ensure the safety of our staff and students.”
Cases have been found in all accomodation sites, except International House, which had not yet reopened.
“UOW provides support and assistance to residents who return a positive test, including ensuring access to meals and food,” the spokesperson said.
“UOW also offers a range of support services for student residents, such as the UOW Counselling Service and the 24 hour Student Support and Wellbeing line, which provides free access to mental health professionals.”
